Christmas was chill. The kids woke us up at 7:15 singing, "Mary did you know?" lol... David and I were exhausted, however the excitement in ALL FOUR of them gave us the energy we needed. They ran downstairs and sat still enough for me to take just a couple pictures and then off they went. I loved that we were all there together, everyone was feeling good and they had that "Christmas morning excitement".
We were able to make it over to Papa and Grandma's house in the afternoon and Cooper made it a couple hours before getting tired. Thankfully, we live close so I brought him home to rest and the others were able to stay a bit longer.
It was fairly uneventful (in a good way) so maybe that's why I almost fell asleep 3 different times. My body is starting to let me know just how tired it is. Christmas was nice, it was just hard to be "present" and feel the "energy" everyone else was feeling. Regardless, I am grateful!
Today was Cooper's check-up at the hospital. Our impression was these visits are mainly to see if he is in need of a blood transfusion or not. We were expecting it to be 45min-1hr. The first nurse comes in and says blood counts looked good so no transfusions needed! Whew! A nice easy appointment, let's go home.
Nope.
Another nurse comes in and explains that his blood sugars are super high. We might get admitted and have to spend the night in the hospital depending on what the endocrine team says. More blood and tests are needed. Sweet boy was expecting just a finger poke and ended up having his port accessed again :(
Apparently, the amount of steroids he is on can trigger his body to not process sugars the way it's suppose to. 3 hours later, they give us approval to go home but we now have an appointment down there tomorrow with the endocrine team to learn all about tracking his blood sugars and administering insulin if needed.
Please pray that it truly is just a reaction to his steroids instead of this being another thing that he will have to deal with and manage long term. Either way, we are about to learn a whole lot more! Our sweet nephew has gone down this road so we are familiar with a lot of it and now about to take a deep dive.
Side note: Sadie's now throwing up and has a fever. She threw up at 2am, 4am, 6am and 8am last night. I know the saying, "when it rains it pours" but GOOD GRIEF!!! That is NOT what we need going through our house right now. Okay, my venting is over...
Tomorrow is another day, one step at a time... The saga continues...
